Organised by the International Youth Academic Elite Association (IYAEA), Shim Huan Boon from S1ST participated and won the 3rd in the Secondary 4 (Senior 1) category. It is a wonderful opportunity for high school students across the globe to showcase their English reading comprehension abilities. As globalisation progresses, the importance of English as a global lingua franca has become increasingly prominent. This competition focuses on cultivating students’ interest in English reading while sharpening their critical thinking skills.
The competition lasted for 30 minutes and was conducted online, and each participant was only allowed to do the test once. The answers were automatically submitted when the time was up. Participants would have to read two passages and answer the questions given, which were quite challenging. The questions were designed to enhance one’s critical thinking when reading complex passages.
Shim Huan Boon:
“I placed 3rd overall in the Secondary 4 (Senior 1) category. Although winning this award is certainly a proud moment for me, I recognise that the skills that I have developed through this competition are the real award that will serve me far beyond this competition. I will continue to hone my English skills and aim higher in future endeavours.”
